Travel with two highly qualified lecturers, Dr. Brendan Roach and Dr Angelo Cettolin who will deliver lectures on the Archaeology and History of these Missionary Journeys.

    • 24 September - Information Night and Introductory Lecture at Dandenong Campus
    • 29 September - Week 1 interaction questions and readings
    • 6 October - Week 2 interaction questions and readings
    • 13 October - Week 3 interaction questions and readings
    • 20 October - Week 4 interaction questions and readings
    • 27 October - Week 5 interaction questions and readings
    • 6 November - 16 November: study tour
    • 8 January 2009 - Submit final assessments

Study Tour timetable

DAY 1 – 6/11/08: DEPART MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

  • Arrive at Melbourne Airport and meet at check in.
  • Lecture briefing, relevant departure gate lounge

DAY 2 – 7/11/08: ATHENS:

  • Arrive in Athens and transfer to Piraeus Port to board the ship.

DAY 3 – 8/11/08: THESSALONIKI - VERIA:

  • Morning lecture on sites to be visited (HBC dedicated lecture venue onboard ship): Lectures at Thessaloniki. Visit the Walls, The House of Jason where Paul lived and the Agora where he preached. Continue to Veria (ancient Beroea) to the memorial commemorating Paul’s preaching to the local Jews in 54 AD for more Lectures.

DAY 4 – 9/11/08: KAVALA - PHILIPPI:

  • Morning lecture on sites to be visited (HBC dedicated lecture venue onboard ship): Lectures will be held on site at Kavala (ancient Neapolis), the archaeological site where Paul, Timothy and Silas landed on the coast of Thrace. From there we travel to the historical Philippi where Paul lived, preached and was imprisoned and the Baptistery of Lydia, where the first baptism on European soil took place for further lectures.

DAY 5 – 10/11/08: DIKILI - PERGAMON - SARDIS:

  • Morning lecture on sites to be visited (HBC dedicated lecture venue onboard ship): Today we have onsite lectures at Pergamon, one of the best-preserved ancient sites in Turkey and we continue on to visit Sardis, the most picturesque of the historical Seven Churches.

DAY 6 – 11/11/08: MILETUS:

  • Morning lecture on sites to be visited (HBC dedicated lecture venue onboard ship): Today lectures will be held in Miletus, where Paul delivered his farewell address to the elders of Ephesus.

DAY 7 – 12/11/08: EPHESUS:

  • Morning lecture on sites to be visited (HBC dedicated lecture venue onboard ship): Visit Ephesus, the most impressive archeological site in Turkey,for lectures on the history and archaeology of this great site. Today will include the Great Amphitheater where Paul spoke to the Ephesians.

DAY 8 – 13/11/08: PATMOS:

  • Morning lecture on sites to be visited (HBC dedicated lecture venue onboard ship): Lectures will be held on the island of Patmos, where the apocalyptic Revelation of John was written during his exile from the Roman Empire. We examine the cave and there is an option to visit the monastery of St. John.

DAY 9 – 14/11/08: DISEMBARKATION - ATHENS - CORINTH:

  • Disembark the ship. We continue to ancient Corinth and visit the archaeological ruins of the ancient city where Paul worked. Lectures will be conducted on remains of first-century shops, the agora where Paul was on trial at the Bema, the Fountain of Peirene, the Temple of Apollo and we will visit the archaeological museum. Return to Athens: Overnight.

DAY 10 – 15/11/08: ATHENS:

  • A full day in Athens with lectures at the historical and archaeological sites of the Acropolis and Mars Hill.

DAY 11 – 16/11/08: ATHENS:

  • A visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Athens with onsite lectures.

DAY 12 – 17/11/08: ATHENS:

  • Transfer to the airport for the flight home.
